Tom Carson is a theatre administrator, director, creative facilitator, teaching artist and writer working in Toronto, Ontario.
Tom Carson is the Executive Director of Smile Theatre, a unique company that since 1972 has been dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors in care through innovative performance projects. Tom has trained at York University, and combines over 25 years of experience in accessible theatre and creatively engaging with vulnerable audiences.
As an administrator, Tom has held positions in Theatre for Young Audiences at Youtheatre in Montreal, and Theatre Direct Canada in Toronto, and has produced and created a wide range of independent projects. His work is focused on marginalized audiences, ranging from preschool children and at-risk youth, to adults in the special needs community, seniors, and those living in care. Tom’s productions have touched audiences in theatres, schools, churches, synagogues, seniors’ centres and community spaces in Canada from Vancouver to Charlottetown.
Tom continues the development of innovative new work and programming for seniors in care at Smile Theatre, growing the company, as it celebrates its 50thAnniversary.
