Hawy Rahman

Born 1972 in Baghdad, he works as a sculptor, graphic artist, painter and performance artist. Due to the beginning of the first Gulf War in 1980 and the two subsequent Iraq wars, he was confronted early on with existential themes of life that have undoubtedly found their way into his art. Characteristic for his work are intensity and impulsiveness, which are accompanied by great sensitivity. During intensive phases of work, he consciously approaches and modifies certain experiences. In doing so, he makes use of various media and modes of expression, whereby colours play an essential role. With a reflective distance, he tries to treat what he has experienced in the course of his life in a socially critical way.
